So True is probably The Black Seeds most well-loved songs from the album ‘On The Sun’ released in 2004.
Getting the opportunity to record a version in Te Reo Māori for Waiata Anthems is such an honour and has been a great experience.

First Wharehoka Wano and Ruakere Hond translated the English into Te Reo Māori with real care and sensitivity to the song and its meaning. It’s simply a love so for all of us, for those that are extra special in our lives.

Then I flew to Wellington for the recording at Surgery Studios with long-time friend and creative partner - engineer Lee Prebble. Lee recorded and mixed the original track 20 years ago. Original member Daniel Weetman was also there in support.

It’s was interesting exploring the different levels of meaning that have become more apparent through the translation of ‘So True - Koia Ko Koe’ and in my performance with guidance from Tawaroa Kawana I tried my best in achieving the correct pronunciation and timing musically.

I hope that our fans and others will
Sing along with this new version as a familiar kiwi classic now in our native language forever.
